HOW IT WORKS

How Veteran Assistance Works

Asking for help should not feel complicated.

Tell Homeland Heroes Foundation what is going on, what kind of support you need, and how we can reach you.

HHF will review the request and explain the next step based on the situation and available resources.

Start With Your Situation

You do not need to know the name of a program before asking for help.

Some veterans contact HHF because they need furniture. Others may need food, gas, temporary lodging, help with a utility bill, or another essential need.

Start by telling HHF what is happening and what would help most.

The Assistance Process

What Happens After You Reach Out

From your first message to learning the next step, here is how the HHF assistance process works.

  1. STEP 1

    Tell HHF What You Need

Complete the Veteran Assistance form with your contact information and a clear explanation of the situation. You can select the type of assistance that most closely matches your need. If you are not sure which category fits, explain the situation in your own words.

    START YOUR REQUEST
  2. STEP 2

    HHF Reviews the Request

A member of the HHF team reviews the information you provide. The team looks at the type of need, eligibility, available resources, and other information relevant to the request.

  3. STEP 3

HHF May Ask for More Information

Some requests may require additional information or documentation before HHF can determine what assistance may be available. If something else is needed, the team will explain what to provide.

  4. STEP 4

    HHF Explains the Next Step

If HHF can assist, the team will explain what support may be available and what happens next. If HHF cannot provide the requested assistance directly, the team may be able to point you toward another veteran, public, or community resource when possible.

Information You Might Need

What Information Might Be Needed?

Documentation requirements depend on the request.

HHF may ask for information needed to understand the situation or verify eligibility. If documentation is needed, the team will explain what to provide.

Before You Send Anything

A DD214 may be relevant for some veterans, but requirements can vary depending on the request.

Wait for instructions from HHF before sending sensitive military, financial, medical, or personal documentation. Please do not send sensitive documents through the general contact form.

Response Timing

How Long Does the Process Take?

Response times can vary depending on the request, current volume, available resources, and whether additional information is needed.

HHF will review the request as soon as possible.

Why Timing Varies

HHF does not promise a fixed response window. The team reviews each request individually and follows up based on the type of need and what information is available.

Individual Review

Why Every Request Is Different

HHF reviews assistance requests individually. What support may be available can depend on several factors.

  • the type of assistance requested
  • eligibility
  • current furniture inventory
  • available resources
  • information needed to review the request
  • the circumstances of the household

This is not a complete formal approval checklist. HHF reviews each situation based on the information provided.

What HHF Can and Cannot Promise

HHF cannot guarantee that every request will be approved or fulfilled. The organization also cannot guarantee:

  • specific furniture items
  • delivery
  • transportation
  • lodging
  • financial payments
  • funding amounts
  • specific response times

The team will explain what may be available after reviewing the request.

Not Sure Where to Start

Not Sure Which Type of Help You Need?

That is okay. Start with the main Veteran Assistance form and explain what is going on. HHF can review the information and help determine the next step.

Next Steps

What Happens Next?

If HHF is able to assist, the next step depends on the type of support involved.

Different Types of Help, Different Next Steps

Furniture requests may involve different next steps than emergency or essential-needs requests. Follow the instructions provided by the HHF team for your specific situation.

Follow the Guidance You Receive

The HHF team will explain what happens next based on your request. If another resource is a better fit, the team can help point you in the right direction when possible.
